HOME, Sweet HOME.

We are Mad about LOW prices - this is one of the slogans of IKEA.

Last Saturday, I got the chance to pay a visit to IKEA near to OneU. It was a nice visit which inspire me to make a lovely home one day.

I agree that "a home should be a place where you looking forward to go, no matter what"

IKEA, not only provide a lot of furnitures, but give people the idea to decorate your house.

IKEA, you make me MAD!

Art of Painting

Ha, I were ordered by my mom to help grandma to paint her house.
Well, I am not so good in painting.
To prove this, I hardly get A in my art piece during school.
Anyway, I accept the challenge and went to help my grandma.
Helping by my youngest brother :-)

Throughout the process, I were complained by grandma that "why you are so dump?".
Haha, I have realized that, I am not good in everything.

How to be Green?

This question has been arisen quite a long time ago.

As most of us are still busy with our daily rush, such as working, eating, leisure and traveling.

And leave behind the responsibility to take care to our mother nature.

I don’t think there is a need for me to describe how our lovely earth suffering from pollutions and climate change, as there are plenty of them where you could read it online as well as from other sources.

We, always acclaim that we are the most cleaver creatures of god, and “misuse” the talent which given by god to destroy the earth. How? We have polluting the nature, killing the whales just to fulfill our “needs”.

It is worsening if you never realize that you have polluting the nature?

Let me give you some examples.

How you deal with your batteries after you used it? Throw it to dustbin?

(The chemicals in the batteries are hazardous to our health as well as our mother nature, since it will pollute our water sources)

How about the old clothes, papers, aluminum tins?

We bought it and use it, then throw it away. Since we think that “It’s mine, thus it’s my right to do whatever I like”.

(Have you ever considered the energies and materials used to make those stuffs?)

Anyway, there is still have time for you to make a change, if you have the conscience to do so!

How?

It’s good to hear this question from you. That mean, our lovely earth still have the chance to make a change.

Well, I am going to share some of the ways with you on the ways to make our mother nature feeling better.

10 ideas for us to start with:

1. Switch to renewable energy

Anyway, it sounds incredible for us to start it in Malaysia. Since you might have no idea on how to get started with renewable energy. You may consider Solar energy.

2. Buy energy efficient appliances
If you're buying a washing machine, refrigerator, dish washer or oven, buy the most energy-efficient model you can afford. They might be more expensive but they pay for themselves through lower energy bills. The same is true for office equipment like computers, copiers, printers.

3. Fluorescent lamps are cheaper in the long run
Replace the lights you use most with compact fluorescent lamps. They cost more than ordinary lamps but you end up saving money because they use only around one-quarter of the electricity to prove the same light. And they last four times as long as a normal light bulb!

4. Avoid stand-by and turn off lights
Turn off televisions, videos, stereos and computers when they are not in use - they can use between 10 and 60% of the power they use when on "stand by". Turn off lights when you don't need them - it saves energy already after a minute or two. Turn off computer screens when you take a break.

5. Wash economically
Use the washing machine or dish washer only when you have a full load. Use washing powder suitable for low temperature washes and use economy programmes.

6. About your fridge
Don't leave fridge doors open for longer than necessary, let food cool down fully before putting it in the fridge or freezer, defrost regularly and keep at the right temperature. Where possible don't stand cookers and fridges/freezers next to each other.

7. Getting around and on your way to work and school
When you want to make short journeys, try walking! Use a bicycle for short trips and local shopping. It keeps you fit too and is fun too! Make more use of public transport, such as buses and trains, for longer journeys. Share care journeys with work colleagues or friends - up to a third of car mileage is accounted for by the drive to work.

8. About your car
If you have to buy a car, buy a fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly one. This will save you money and keep more CO2 from going into the atmosphere. Make sure that your tires are inflated correctly - this can save you 5% on the cost of your petrol. Turn off your engine when waiting in your car.

9. Reduce your air travel
When you travel to your holiday destination by plane you are contributing to significant emissions of climate change causing carbon dioxide. So take vacations nearer to home, or get there by other forms of transport such as train, bus or boat. If you have to fly, consider buying carbon offsets to compensate for the emissions caused by your flight.

10. Enjoy the sun! :-)
Fit solar panels on the roof of your home. Turn your own home into a clean power station!

In short, it’s all about energy efficiency and life style. Conserve the energy you used, use it but never waste it.

Make a little change in our life style, being GREEN.

You’ll be rewarded!

Simulation Teaching - Biology

We, PL, Jan and I were in one group for Simulation Teaching for Biology.
We were given the topic - Locomotion of Animals (5th Form in Malaysians' Syllabus).
Well, there are locomotion of Birds, Fishes, Earthworm, Grasshopper to be selected for us to teach within 45mins.
Firstly, we chose Fish and Bird after a few days of investigation on each animals.
Erm, no harm to be honest here, we chose the Fish and Bird due to the easiness for us to teach in several ways and difficulties if we chose Earthworm and Grasshopper.
Well, 3 of us are not Biology students*, but "forced" to teach in Biology.

(* 3 of us take no subject related to Biology in University, only PL who seem to be more expert than us, as she studied Biology in her 6th form, while Jan and I have only studied Biology in 4th and 5th form.)

At last, we come to the decision, where we will only teach Locomotion of Fish as we have only a very little of time. For us, a quality teaching is when our students can learn what we (teachers) have planned. If we put in too many things in a lesson, the students might not able to absorb what we want to teach.

The Cheap and Nice Hotel in KL.

I have been staying this hotel twice.

The last time I went to stay was just three days ago.
Well, sure there is reason to draw me back for staying there for second, third ...... times
Why?
It is cheap, convenient and nice.

Imagine that, by walking distance (within 5mins) you can just reach the monarail (Medan Tuanku) and STAR LRT (Sultan Ismail) station.
Meanwhile, you have just to pay RM 150+ for two night stay, which is just around RM75 per day.
Anyway, the price can become lowered, if you book earlier. :-)

However, there are some weaknesses of the rooms. Likes having only one plug, no aircond (you have to pay for it, if you want it), no hair dryer, no shampoo (pay for it, if you need it).

The Books I Have Read.

In this long holiday, I spent most my time on reading.
Newspapers (since the day in exam week, I have "addicted" to newspaper),
Magazines such as Reader Digest...

Meanwhile, I read a few books too.
The Beach by Alex Gallard,
Teacher Man by Frank McCourt,
The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch.

They are all nice books which I will recommend to you who like to read.

The Theme Song of the Semester.

I were in stress last semester where I have countless of assignments in last semester.
Anyway, it was just an experience of campus life.
And I keep myself strong to face those tension by listening to this song.
My roommate, Peter notice that I will play this song when I am in stress.

Here we go, the theme song of the Semester:

Avril Lavigne – Keep holding On

You're not alone
Together we stand
I'll be by your side, you know I'll take your hand
When it gets cold
And it feels like the end
There's no place to go
You know I won't give in
No I won't give in

Keep holding on
'Cause you know we'll make it through, we'll make it through
Just stay strong
'Cause you know I'm here for you, I'm here for you
There's nothing you could say
Nothing you could do
There's no other way when it comes to the truth
So keep holding on
'Cause you know we'll make it through, we'll make it through

So far away
I wish you were here
Before it's too late, this could all disappear
Before the doors close
And it comes to an end
With you by my side I will fight and defend
I'll fight and defend
Yeah, yeah

Keep holding on
'Cause you know we'll make it through, we'll make it through
Just stay strong
'Cause you know I'm here for you, I'm here for you
There's nothing you could say

Nothing you could do
There's no other way when it comes to the truth
So keep holding on
'Cause you know we'll make it through, we'll make it through

Hear me when I say, when I say I believe
Nothing's gonna change, nothing's gonna change destiny
Whatever's meant to be will work out perfectly
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

La da da da
La da da da
La da da da da da da da da

Keep holding on
'Cause you know we'll make it through, we'll make it through
Just stay strong
'Cause you know I'm here for you, I'm here for you
There's nothing you could say
Nothing you could do
There's no other way when it comes to the truth
So keep holding on
'Cause you know we'll make it through, we'll make it through

Keep holding on
Keep holding on

There's nothing you could say
Nothing you could do
There's no other way when it comes to the truth
So keep holding on
'Cause you know we'll make it through, we'll make it through

Dumpling Time!

Ha, it's time for dumpling!
I like this period the most as I got the chance to show off my talent in making the dumplings.
Talent?
Well, it's not as nice as you thought.
The dumpling I made this time are tiny until my nephew call it as "tiny tiny".
Meanwhile, keep on asking me to make a bigger dumpling.
What to do? If my "talent" only bring me this far (the small dumpling).
You may ask how big were my dumplings were?
The were the size of a tennis ball, if no mistake.

Anyway, I am here, proudly present you the video of my grandma who are really talented in making dumpling.
Why I say so?
Well, she is the master of my master (mom).
However, she is shy to admit it, by just replying "aiyo, my dumplings are just a little bit nicer la".

Happy Dumpling Day.
